The Concord School is providing computer network and Internet access for its students. This service allows students to share information, learn new concepts, research diverse subjects, and create and maintain school-based websites.

The aim of this policy is to ensure that pupils will benefit from learning opportunities offered by the school internet resources in a safe and effective manner.  Internet use and access is considered a school resource and privilege. Therefore, if the school AUP is not adhered to, this privilege will be withdrawn and appropriate sanctions – as outlined in the AUP – will be imposed.

Every year, any student who wants computer network and Internet access for that upcoming school year must sign and submit an Acceptable Use Policy. Students who are under 18 must also have their parent or guardian sign this policy. By signing this agreement, the student, and parent or guardian agree to follow the rules set forth in this Policy and to report any misuse of the computer network or the Internet to a teacher or supervisor.

UNACCEPTABLE USES OF THE COMPUTER NETWORK OR THE INTERNET

The following uses of the account provided by the school are unacceptable:

  1. Selling or purchasing any illegal substance;
  1. Accessing, transmitting, or downloading pornography, obscene depictions, harmful materials, or materials that encourage others to violate the law.
  2. Transmitting or downloading confidential information or copyrighted materials.
  3. Uses that involve obtaining and or using an anonymous e-mail site.
  4. Uses that cause harm to others or damage to their property are unacceptable.

Unacceptable uses include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Deleting, copying, modifying, or forging other users e-mails, files, or data;
  2. Accessing another users email without their permission;
  3. Damaging computer equipment, files, data or the network;
  4. Using profane, abusive, or impolite language;
  5. Disguising one’s identity, impersonating other users, or sending anonymous e-mail messages.
  6. Threatening, harassing, or making defamatory or false statements about others;
  7. Accessing, transmitting, or downloading offensive, harassing, or disparaging materials;
  8. Accessing, transmitting or downloading computer viruses or other harmful files or programs, or in any way degrading or disrupting any computer system performance;
  9. Accessing, transmitting or downloading large files, including “chain letters” or any type of “pyramid schemes.”
  10. Using any School’s computer to pursue hacking, internal or external to the district, or attempting to access information that is protected by privacy laws.
  11. Uses that jeopardize access or lead to unauthorized access into accounts or other computer networks are unacceptable.
  12. Commercial uses of the school network are unacceptable.
  13. Accessing, transmitting or downloading movies, music and games or other materials which are not supportive of students’ academic.

Sanctions

Misuse of the internet may result in disciplinary action, including written warnings, withdrawal of access privileges and, in extreme cases, suspension or expulsion.

PARENT AGREEMENT

I have read and understood The Concord School Internet and Acceptable Use Policy, and understand that student access is granted for educational purposes according to the conditions stated in this policy.

I understand that the internet is a global network of computers, and that whilst The Concord School will monitor student use of the internet, it is not able to control the content, or restrict student access to all controversial or inappropriate materials. I agree that I will not hold the school responsible for any material encountered on the internet.

I am aware that any costs associated with the repair or replacement of information technology equipment damaged by my child may be borne by me, the parent/caregiver. I am aware that my signing and returning of this form constitutes a commitment to pay such costs.

I give permission for _________________________________________________________________ (Student name) to be granted access to The Concord School’s internet.
